The project was proposed by residents living next to an alley severely degraded by erosion. The force of four-acres of water channeling through the alley regularly scoured the paving several feet down. RHI worked with the community to develop the Q Street Green Alley in Washington, D.C., now a first-generation green alley which shows how an underutilized public space can both clean stormwater and serve a useful social space. This project received a Potomac Chapter ASLA Merit Award.
