American Society of Landscape Architects, Virginia Chapter, 2020, Commendation in General Design: University of Virginia Remembrance Garden

The University Remembrance Garden, completed in 2017, is a nurturing place for the community to come together to draw strength and find solace, heal, and memorialize those students who have been lost during their time at the University. RHI facilitated a collaborative process that included student and faculty representatives to refine earlier visions of the memorial garden and develop site strategies and implement new fabrication techniques. Students involved in the collaboration surveyed their peers as the design evolved, wrote grant proposals, and raised funds for the project’s implementation. The project earned RHI a Commendation in General Design from the ASLA Virginia Chapter in 2020.
