Jones Beach State Park Central Mall

The Central Mall is Jones Beach’s grand entrance and the iconic center of the Park. The original design was a masterpiece of Beaux Arts place-making, but flooding and deterioration over time have worn away the elegance and formality that made it so striking. RHI lead a multi-disciplinary design team to rehabilitate the Central Mall. The design envisions a complete overhaul of the plaza’s hardscape, planting, bus shelters, lighting, and fountain. Innovations included adapted the formal Beaux Arts plantings with more sustainable selections and subtlety integrating ADA access into the historic circulation.
