Eva Walker Park

Warrenton, VA

The master plan for Eva Walker Park envisions the transformation of an existing 5.6-acre park into an inviting public amenity commemorating the life of community leader Eva Walker and honoring the heritage of Haiti, the historic African American neighborhood that surrounds the property. The plan proposes recreational and sensory experiences for all ages, including gardens, a nature playground, artwork and interpretive elements, hillside slides, and a natural amphitheater with a splash pad that can be converted into a multi-use stage. A second basketball court will be added and an existing picnic pavilion updated. A large, open lawn in the center of the park will host festivals and events, while a new woodland walk and trail network will offer serene opportunities to connect with nature and native plants. Community objectives also include the preservation of several mature trees and a popular sledding Hill. The Eva Walker Commemorative Garden, planned as a highlight within the park, has been awarded an AARP Community Challenge Grant.
